Riley’s Big Day

Riley was twelve years old. She was kind and cared about others. She loved her school and her friends. Today was a big day. It was the day of the school talent show!

Riley felt excited but a little nervous too. She wanted to sing a song. She practiced every day. But what if nobody liked her singing?

In the morning, Riley walked into school. The hallway was filled with happy sounds. She saw her friend Mia.

“Are you ready for the show?” Mia asked.

“I hope so,” Riley said. “What are you doing?”

“I’m dancing! It’s going to be fun!” Mia smiled.

Riley felt happy to see Mia’s excitement. She took a deep breath. “I can do this!” she thought.

Classes passed quickly. During lunch, Riley saw a new girl sitting alone. The girl looked sad. Riley knew how that felt. She decided to say hello.

“Hi! I’m Riley!” she said.

“Hello. I’m Sara,” the girl replied, looking up.

“Are you going to the talent show?” Riley asked.

“I wanted to, but I’m scared,” Sara admitted.

Riley smiled. “You can do it! It’s fun! I’m singing!”

Sara’s eyes lit up. “Really? Maybe I can dance with you!”

Riley nodded. “Yes! That will be great!”

After lunch, it was time for the talent show. The gym was filled with bright lights. Students clapped and cheered.

Mia was the first to go. She danced beautifully. Riley clapped loudly. Next, it was Riley’s turn. Her heart raced. She held Sara’s hand.

“Are you ready?” Riley whispered.

“Yes!” said Sara.

Together, they stepped on stage. Riley took a deep breath and started to sing. Sara danced beside her. They smiled at each other.

The audience loved it! Everyone clapped and cheered. When they finished, Riley felt proud. She looked at Sara, and Sara was beaming.

After the show, a teacher came up to them. “You both were wonderful!” she said.

Riley felt warm inside. She had helped someone and made a new friend. The talent show was the best day ever!

That night, Riley went to bed with a big smile. She knew she could always be brave and help others. Tomorrow would be another exciting day!
